Personal Experiences

I woke up on the 21st June 2008 and could not see.  It transpired that I had suffered a detached retina and macula.  Unfortunately, things did not go too well, and the result is I have the best part of very little sight.  My wife found a leaflet about Forge and we knocked on the door.  Our welcome was “Come in; I hope you don’t mind me pointing out, but you are leading him wrong.  Would you mind if I show you the way that is better for him?”  A short demonstration brought us into another room, and they hadn’t even asked my name yet!  From that moment on Forge has improved my life.

The Braille class at Forge is run by two blind teachers who are marvellous.  Learning Braille has changed my life.

As we live abroad it was good to know that Mum was able to attend activities at Forge including joining the Hand Bell Ringers.  She looked forward to this and especially when the ringers were invited to perform in the community.
