About UsThe Beginning
Forge was opened in 1993 by a group of people who recognised the need for a specific organisation within the Forest of Dean providing for and representing the needs of local visually impaired people.
How we function
We are run by a Management Committee assisted by two fulltime and one part-time staff member. The Mangement Committee usually meets every two months. We also have a variety of tutors and volunteers who help run various courses including Braille, hand bells and leisure activities.
We are in contact with up to 400 blind and partially sighted people. Newsletters are sent out to these people monthly in the format requested.
Funding
As with many charities we are reliant on grants and the generosity of the public. Through various fund raising activities we raise some income but we still require donations, bequests and volunteers to support our range of services.
It is our priority to maintain the highest standard of support for people with visual impairments.
